Berner & Mattner introduces CTE XL Professional:

New and significantly more powerful test case generation tool enables new application fields

Munich, June 25, 2010 – Berner & Mattner Systemtechnik GmbH presented the new test case generation tool CTE XL Professional at this year’s Automotive Testing Expo Europe. A new feature of the graphical classification tree is the test case prioritization, which is the automatic result of weighted test-relevant aspects. The significantly improved linking with tools like DOORS and MESSINA facilitates monitoring of specification changes, variant management with MERAN, generation of executable test scripts and test implementation. The application range of CTE XL Professional is extended by the new graphical user interface, based on Eclipse, the extended tag concept for comprehensive annotations and deterministic test case generation by dependency and combination rules.

At the Automotive Testing Expo Europe 2010 Berner & Mattner Systemtechnik GmbH, expert for specification, development and test of complex electronic systems, introduced its new graphical test development tool CTE XL Professional. In comparison with the basic version CTE XL, the new classification tree editor CTE XL Professional provides significantly extended functions and ease of use. The improved user interface based on Eclipse can better display and edit extensive classification trees and large test case quantities. The new license model offers new application fields for CTE XL Professional.

New: Weighting and determination of test cases
For the first time CTE XL Professional allows evaluation of test case significance: Test cases and their quantities can be organized and automatically executed according to their priority, based on stochastic methods. In case of limited test resources the test can be narrowed down to the most important test cases. Automatic test schedules are accelerated and the test significance for product quality is increased. In addition, the existing rules for test case generation have been changed to a deterministic generation model in order to improve the linking of downstream test activities.

Automatic requirement and variant management
Due to an improved tool linking to DOORS, specification changes can be tracked directly, automatically, and in real-time. In this way, the requirements tracing between requirements and tests, demanded by many standards, is supported in an optimal way. The better linking to MERAN, in addition, allows an automated variant management in CTE XL Professional.

Better generation, parameterization and annotation of test cases
Due to extended import and export functions, e. g. to MESSINA, CTE XL Professional can generate executable test scripts and parameterize existing test implementations. The significantly optimized tag concept allows easy annotation of additional information regarding test cases and tree elements like comments, links, files, and so on.

Embedding into QualityCenter
All information of CTE XL Professional can be saved and opened in QualityCenter QC. Additional input fields allow setting of test case entry and exit conditions for quality assurance purposes as well as details for the expected behavior. All descriptions, test steps and conditions are automatically generated, resulting in an improved test consistency and data quality.
