Diploma theses drive software testing

Berner & Mattner Sponsors Graduation Award

Munich, June 16, 2011 – On May 18, the two winners of this year's “GI TAV Diploma and Master Thesis Award in Software Testing” were awarded at the Automotive Testing Expo in Stuttgart. The award, funded by Berner & Mattner and other companies, was presented by representatives of the engineering service provider and Gesellschaft fuer Informatik (Society for Computer Science). The specialized section for testing, analysis and verification of software at Gesellschaft fuer Informatik (GI TAV) and the sponsors had selected the top two final theses submitted for software testing. The prize was awarded during a ceremony at the fair for test procedures in the automotive industry. Daniela Rose and Stephan Krusche were presented with the prizes, worth 1,000 and 500 euros.

The first prize of the "GI TAV Diploma and Master Thesis Award in Software Testing" went to Daniela Rose of Technische Universität Berlin (Technical University of Berlin) for her thesis entitled "Application of evolutionary algorithms for the coverage-controlled test case generation from timed automata". The second prize went to Stephan Krusche of Technische Universität München (Technical University of Munich) for his thesis "Design and implementation of a tool for the generation of test environments for AUTOSAR software components".

"Encouraging young academics is of particular importance to us. The participation in the GI TAV Award is an exciting opportunity for us to discover and reward young and fresh ideas", says Anja Ranft, Human Resources Manager at Berner & Mattner. "Software testing is one of our main activity areas. This is why we focus on this area with respect to young talent promotion.”

The sponsors will continue their commitment next year: January 31, 2012, is the application deadline for the next "GI TAV Diploma and Master Thesis Award in Software Testing".
